Updated: Oct 17

Francesca Scurtu shares her unique experience of research and clinical training at IFEM Endo Bordeaux, under the supervision of Professor Horace Roman, a world-renowned expert in the field of endometriosis.

A unique research opportunity

"I am currently participating in a research fellowship program in partnership with IFEM Endo (Bordeaux, France), under the supervision of Professor Horace Roman, and funded by a research grant from Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Bucharest.

My work focuses on intestinal endometriosis and fertility prognosis, a topic of great scientific and clinical relevance in the field of gynecology.

It is a real privilege and a tremendous honor to be part of such a brilliant and intellectually stimulating team, where scientific rigor, methodological precision, and a spirit of collaboration are deeply ingrained.

Clinical learning and mentoring excellence

I feel deeply humbled to be learning from Professor Horace Roman, an exemplary mentor—demanding but deeply caring—who offers insightful advice on both clinical decision-making and advanced research methodology.

One of IFEM Endo's major strengths lies in its comprehensive and meticulously maintained database, which covers a wide range of clinical and surgical parameters, systematically documented after each procedure. This remarkable repository has led to numerous publications in prestigious international journals, contributing significantly to the advancement of global knowledge on endometriosis and establishing Professor Roman as one of the world's leading authorities in this complex and constantly evolving field.

A passionate and organized team

Professor Roman's unwavering dedication, intellectual curiosity, and sincere passion for excellence permeate every level of the team's activities. The group's exceptional organization, effective management, and shared commitment to innovation create an environment in which clinical expertise and research excellence integrate seamlessly.

An inspiring and transformative experience

This fellowship offered me not only the unique opportunity to observe Professor Roman performing complex endometriosis surgeries, allowing me to gain an in-depth understanding of advanced surgical techniques, but also the privilege of participating in clinical research that meets the highest academic standards. This experience has been extraordinary—both intellectually enriching and deeply humbling—and continues to inspire me to contribute to the advancement of scientific knowledge and the improvement of care for women with endometriosis.

I remain deeply grateful to Professor Horace Roman and the entire IFEM Endo team for their generosity, mentorship, and unwavering commitment to excellence."

An inspiring model of professionalism and humanity that will continue to guide my academic and clinical journey.
